We do not have to support a franchise when its lethargic owners decrease payroll while the rest of the league increases it.
We do not, should not, and will not help these fools hold onto this franchise any longer.
Remember when the Mets were a legitimate team in baseball, and not this laughing stock the Wilpons have morphed them into?
Remember when we didn't lose our home grown beloved players to divisional rival teams?
Remember when our payroll properly reflected the fact that we play in one of the biggest markets in the country?
Remember when 'Moneyball' and 'The Mets' were NOT used in the same sentence?
Remember the days of Wright and Reyes playing side by side?
The Wilpons want to punish you for not spending your hard earned money attending games and purchasing merchandise. They expect you to spend money on this team, while they decrease payroll and field an inferior squad. Their logic is rooted in the false idea that, since they are losing money due to lowered attendance, the fans will simply have to blindly come out and support a team themselves. We as fans cannot be the only ones to support a team; it is an owner's responsibility to support them as well.
When the owners of a team do not have the funds to field and support a successful franchise, then it is time for those owners to sell that team.
If the Wilpons cannot financially back this team, then they have to sell it. We are not Kansas City. We are not Baltimore, Houston, or San Diego. This is New York. In the New York market, you do not decrease your payroll while divisional rivals increase it. We should not be limited by Money Ball type spending. In New York, we should not lose our home grown stars to divisional rivals because we can't afford them.
If you love the Mets, if you loved Jose Reyes, if you loved the fun and excitement the Mets used to bring, if you are tired of hearing how pathetic the Mets are on the radio and in newspapers every day then do not support the Wilpon's franchise any longer. Those empty seats in the stadium will be a huge message that we do not support the Wilpons.
As such, what we need to do is simple:
Stop going to games. Stop buying merchandise.
Tell your friends. Spread the word to every Mets fan that we will not stand for the Wilpons ownership any longer. Write on blogs and call the radio stations to let ownership know that we want them gone. We will not allow them to destroy our cherished franchise any longer.
When they call asking to renew your ticket package and when they email you with new 'deals', you know what to say:
NO MORE WILPON.
We do not, should not, and will not help these fools hold onto this franchise any longer.
